The Container Store, which has long featured a specialized custom closet department in both its bricks-and-mortar and online operations, recently launched its first-ever “new direction” stand-alone Custom Closets store in Los Angeles.
CEO Melissa Reiff describes it as “an immense opportunity for our brand.”
In addition to closets, the 21,000-square-foot concept also highlights customized offices, laundry rooms, mudrooms, pantries, libraries, living room/media rooms, playrooms, garages and craft shelving displays.
The goal is to make it easier for customers to better understand and visualize the breadth of custom opportunities through more than 65 closet and lifestyle displays, a full-service design center, a personalized design experience and more.
“We are experts in storage and organization solutions,” Reiff says, “and our expertise is invaluable to accomplishing the beautiful functionality of one of the most utilized spaces in a home — the closet.”
“The design of the store is elevated yet accessible, serving as a true design resource that allows customers to talk through their projects and visualize specific aspects of the design while having easy access to shop for key organization products,” says Val Richardson, vice president of real estate.
The first Custom Closets store opened in Los Angeles’ recently renovated Farmers Market in July.
When customers enter the store, they’re greeted by a full-service design center and workstation. The store highlights Custom Closets’ four lines, both affordable and luxury options; customers can also work with a designer to find the best products to maximize their space if a custom closet is not in their budget.
Plans are to open another Custom Closets store in Dallas by the end of 2020.
“Our goal is to take what we do best and further strengthen our offerings to become the go-to custom closets resource for every size, style and budget,” Reiff says.
