Postmates, an early entrant in the on-demand delivery field in 2011, began by providing delivery from stores and restaurants that previously was only available offline. Postmates has grown to now provide access to more than 500,000 merchants; it operates in more than 3,500 cities in the United States and Mexico. But this spring, it added another significant element: It has teamed up with Square Inc. to extend its on-demand delivery to small business sellers.
James Butts, senior vice president of product for Postmates, speaks of the millions of small, local businesses that could benefit from the partnership, adding on-demand delivery to any sale by simply pushing a button — no technical expertise required. Deliveries can be scheduled and tracked through the new integration — a first of its kind for Square. Interested businesses can find Postmates in the Square marketplace, as well as the Postmates site.
According to Postmates, its delivery can now reach more than 70 percent of U.S. households.
