Meghan Markle. Miley Cyrus. Priyanka Chopra. In recent years, social media has granted up-close-and-personal access to celebrity brides and their celebrations — all the while changing an industry through keywords, hashtags and likes. Lyst’s 2019 Wedding Report takes a look at how Instagram has transformed weddings; how dresses with pockets, male engagement rings, pink gowns, personalized sneakers and diamond headbands are all having their moment; and how some trendsetting couples have had up to 39 million “engagements” through social. “From private jets and walls of roses to fireworks and Ferris wheels,” for example, Italian blogger Chiara and her beau, rapper Fedez, “knew how to take their 23.7 million followers on their journey,” the report states.
All eyes were not just on Chiara and Fedez, naturally. When Cyrus released images of her own relaxed nuptials, searches for Vivienne Westwood wedding dresses rose 170 percent for the next few months, according to Lyst. Likewise, when Princess Eugenie wed Jack Brooksbank in a gown designed to show her scoliosis surgery scar, searches for “backless wedding dresses” rose 200 percent. And what of Chopra’s wedding festivities with Nick Jonas? Her custom gown led to a 900 percent increase in searches for Ralph Lauren wedding dresses within 24 hours.
