A holistic approach for those facing cancer

There’s not much about cancer that helps those affected feel like themselves. Walgreens is stepping up to help by expanding its “Feel More Like You” initiative to more than 400 locations nationwide. The move makes Walgreens “the first U.S. pharmacy, health and beauty retailer to integrate personalized oncology clinical care from pharmacists with beauty support services from specially trained beauty consultants,”
according to the company.

“For many patients, the result of cancer treatment not only impacts how they feel on the inside, but also the physical and emotional changes can drastically affect their self-image,” says Rina Shah, vice president of pharmacy operations and specialty at Walgreens. “By leveraging the expertise of our beauty and pharmacy teams, we’re looking to provide personalized care for people living with cancer that has not been found in a retail environment before.”

The effort is the result of a collaboration with cancer support program Look Good, Feel Better and the Cancer Support Community network. It started in spring 2018 in cities such as Austin, Chicago, Dallas and Orlando, among others. When so many don’t know what to do or say to someone post-diagnosis, it’s a business move that shows someone has been listening.
