The way some folks post pics of their pets on social media, you’d think it was the pets that held the accounts. Now, with PetSmooch, they do. The mobile app, available for both iPhone or Android, gives dogs and cats their own profiles. (Horses, birds, fish, reptiles and exotic animals are next.) But the site does more than help those with common interests find each other; pet parents can purchase “smooches” for posts they especially enjoy, and each purchase translates to an indirect donation to a pet cause or charity.
The app is free, but will accept tailored ads specific to the pet community in the future, according to press materials. Also on the horizon: the ability to post live video as well as photos. PetSmooch is run by Max & Molly LLC, parent company of Max & Molly, “the premier video dating app for pet lovers,” and the Max & Molly Charitable Corporation.
