An automatic “yum”

Robotics may never have been tastier. Reis & Irvy’s robotic frozen yogurt kiosks are enjoying rapid growth as customers continue to visit “Planet Froyo.” The franchised kiosks, slightly larger than an average vending machine, can dispense up to 60 cups of frozen yogurt or ice cream per hour. A bright and colorful touchscreen allows users to choose from a variety of flavors and toppings, as well as pay with cash, credit, Apple Pay or Google Wallet. The company also is moving toward cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. Temperature sensors remotely alert operators, and the robots can serve 200 cups of yogurt before needing a refill. All that, and they feature a couple of engaging and fun animated characters.

Press materials boast that Reis & Irvy’s is “one of the highest revenue per square foot businesses in the world.” It’s also one that eliminates the need for staffed labor and answers the ever-louder cry for personalization. More than 1,000 franchises have been sold in the United States, as well as elsewhere.
