Zachys, which recently moved into the Washington, D.C., area, is attempting to change the way consumers buy wine. It incorporates a wine tasting experience and auction, all in a warehouse in an industrial area of the city. Half the space is used to store wines for sale; another area has private storage for collections. An event room also is available.
Don’t be fooled; Zachys won’t fill any last-minute needs for alcohol — shopping is by appointment only. Customers can pick up wines from storage or receive delivery on an order, and wines also can be shipped from its New York store.
Filling that Millennial-penchant for event-driven shopping, the D.C. location will be home to winemaker dinners, wine tastings and wine auctions.
