New research from Boston Retail Partners shows that 51 percent of retailers now offer some form of same-day delivery, up from 16 percent the previous year. Within two years, the survey says, 65 percent will offer it.
Many retailers are using a third-party delivery service such as Uber or Lyft to compete. Of course, Amazon got this whole thing kicked off and retailers are finding they must be able to meet consumers’ increasing demands for instant gratification.
Getting the product in people’s hands is just one aspect of the opportunities that exist in today’s retail. BRP’s 2017 Digital Commerce Benchmark Survey also showed:
• 38 percent of retailers say improving personalization is a top digital customer experience priority.
• 49 percent say they will be able to allow customers the ability to “start anywhere, finish anywhere” within the next five years.
• 54 percent say creating a consistent brand experience across all channels is a top priority.
